RP Unit History Time Line
War of 3039 was a relatively minor conflict that involved the Federated Suns and Lyran Commonwealth (as the Federated Commonwealth), versus the Draconis Combine. This was supposed to be a straight forward assault utilizing brute force to exploit the Combine's perceived lack of ready equipment.
Theodore Kurita answered with a bold bluff. Fighting a delaying action, using mostly secondary line units to bog down the Federated Commonwealth's attack, the Combine then launched Operation Orochi. Operation Orochi was a lightning attack on several worlds on the flank of the FedCom forces. This was largely successful and allowed the Combine forces to take some worlds including Quentin. This counter attack completely disrupted the FedCom offensive and made Hanse Davion re-evaluate the strength of the Combine Military. He decided to stop the invasion, if he had but known that the Combine attack was a bluff hiding the fact that nothing stood between his forces and the heart of the Combine. He would find this out years later and lament the fact that he let the opportunity slip through his fingers.
A lot of men and Mechs were lost during this short, but intense engagement. The losses appeared to be for nothing more than Political manuevering and caused resentment within the ranks. Several personnel left the FedCom Service including a young Col., Jason "Black Phoenix" Fay.
Jason Fay had been a Colonel with the Robinson Ranger Brigade before he left the service of House Davion. Having grown tired of the internal politics of the great houses military arms Col. Fay called on some of his former Comrads, like Greg "MaverickGTO” Overman, a former Lieutenant Colonel of the Robinson Ranger Brigade, they decided to form a Mercenary Unit giving themselves the ability to choose the battles they fought. Recruiting several former officers and enlisted personnel they had served with, that felt the same way Col. Fay and Ltc. Overman did, they formed the Aces Wild.
The Aces Wild were able to secure several small contracts by the end of 3040 and were slowly expanding their ranks when COL. Fay crossed paths with MAJ. Temple "Blind Temple" Smith of the Robinson Rangers. MAJ. Smith was reaching the end of his tenure with the Robinson Rangers and due to draw downs he was going to be discharged. Completing his tenure with the First Robinson Rangers, MAJ. Smith joined the Aces Wild bringing several like minded personnel with him. That combined with COL. Fay's continued recruiting allowed the Aces to expand into a second Battallion.
Wanting to expand into a 3rd Battion, with the goal of making a full Regiment, COL. Fay went on a recruiting trip with a specific person in mind. Searching out former LTC. Andrew "100Mile" McCarthy. COL. Fay found him on the planet Breed several weeks later. Over some drinks in a local bar, COL. Fay told McCarthy what he was there for and what he had to offer. McCarthy's reaction was immediate and positive. He was more than willing to join the Aces Wild as it would not only reunite him with his former comrads but would allow him to finish his current project.
The "Project" turned out to be the reclamaition and Salvage of an Overlord Class Drop ship and support equipment, including Mechs. He had discovered it early in his career while on a mission on Breed. He knew if he reported it when he found it he wouldn't benefit from the find at all. So he waitedand kept watch over the site during the long years of his service and subsequent release from active duty. The sheer size of the find and the location, in the middle of nowhere deep in the jungles of Breed, made the project nigh on impossible until Col. Fay showed up.
Naming their first Dropship the Omaha after Omaha Beach, the site of huge battle back on Terra in ancient times, the Aces Wild prepared to increase their operational tempo. Utilizing the 1st and 2nd Battalions under the leadership of LTC. Overman and LTC. Smith respectively to complete their present contracts, COL. Fay sent LTC. McCarthy out to recruit more members while he went in search of bigger contracts. Having your own drop ship makes a Mercenary Unit very flexible. By the end of 3042 everything was moving along nicely and the unit was growing and developing a great reputation.
Early in 3043 fighting for the Outworlds Alliance on Brasha, a planet on the Draconis Combines border with the OA, the Aces Wild encountered a Merc unit sent to Brasha to stir up trouble for the OA government forces. Combining arms with the OAM the AW were able to push them off the planet. The fighting was fairly intense and in the process of leaving the Merc forces had to abandon an armored regiment almost completely intact. Claiming right of Salvage and agreeing to halve their agreed upon payment for this contract, the Aces Wild were able to secure this equipment for their use. Not having the personnel to man it or the support personnel to repair/refit it, COL. Fay considered selling it off to fund the unit. LTC. Overman, utilizing his contacts built through his many years as the Supply Officer for the First Robinson Rangers, was able to locate an Armoured Mercenary Unit, with an excellent reputation. The merger would foster the Aces Wild first armored reinforced Battalion. This unit was contacted and added to the Aces Wild ORBAT on a long term contract with the same share percentage as the 'Mech Battallions. They were given the equipment salvaged on Brasha and the task of recruiting the personnel for operations and support. This unit was renamed the Aces Wild 1st Armored Regiment.
In February of 3044 AW took a contract for a raid on the planet Valentina. The pay was set up as salvage and expenses. The Raid was a rousing success as they caught the 4th An Ting division completely un prepared. Along with various 'Mech parts and support equipment, a fully operational Union Class Drop ship was seized. This Drop ship was named the Wild Card in honor of the Gamble taken on the Valentina contract. The operational tempo for the rest of 3044 was intense and yielded some excellent rewards.
The first half of 3045 went quite well for the most part. Some issues and deficiences were brought to light. with a burgeoning ground force it quickly became apparent that Aerospace cover was needed. LTC McCarthy was sent in search of any Aerospace assets that could be found to attach to the AW. LTC. McCarthy was able to locate two Air Wings of older reserve heavy, medium, and light fighters. Aquisition of these assets trquired him to sign a contract with House Davion stating the Aces Wild would take no offensive contracts against House Davion or any of its' holdings for ten years. Deciding a heavy and light Airwing was worth it, he signed and secured the sale. Designated as the 36th Heavy and 37th Light Airwings, it did not take long to attract the pilots and support staff to operate them. During this process, several mercenary aerospace units were approached about joining the Aces Wild and one unit made up of four squadrons of fighter/interceptors and a VTOL detachment took them up on the offer. The Aces Wild allowed them to maintain their designations of the 1st, 3rd, 8th and 15th Aerospace Squadrons. The VTOL detachment was created under the same long term agreement as the 1st Armored Regiment. The Commander of the mercenary aerospace unit was given the overall command of all Aerospace assets and designated Commander Aerospace Naval Task Force Commander.
With more money going out than coming in due to refit and repair costs of the newly aquired equipment and personnel a long term contract was offered to the AW. Having established a good relationship with the Outworlds Alliance previously, COL. Fay was able to secure a contract to remove some Pirates that had established a base of operations from the planet Dante. Dante is home to the Omniss, a highly religous sect that wont allow any tech other than Medical and life sciences on their planet under normal circumstances. Killing two birds with one stone, the Aces Wild escorted a shipment ofMedical supplies, equipment, and some AgroMechs to the planet. Under the guise of leaving, the Aces Wild launched a surprise attack on the Pirates. Using an overwhelming force, the Aces Wild were able to totallydestroy the Pirate base and obliterated the Pirate's operational effectiveness. In the process the Aces Wild were able to seize a Confedrate class Drop ship and some minor Salvage. Following the successful completion of this contract, the Aces Wildwere made an extrodinary offer by the Outworlds Alliance. With two full Battallions of 'Mechs and a large supporting ground force as well as Aerospace assets, the Outworlds Alliance offered them a base on the planet Alegro. The economic stability this arrangement offered far outweighed the limitations it caused so the Aces Wild jumped at the chance. Setting up their base HQ, that would later be named Ft. Oneill, on an island off the main Continent of Alegro the Aces Wild made plans to also build subsequent bases on Alegro's Northern Ice Cap and on one of Alegro's two small Moons.
Most of 3047 was spent consolidating forces and intergrating AW units with OAM forces on the various planets the Aces were contracted to garrison. LTC McCarthy, on a recruiting mission to the planet Outreach, was approached by the commander of an Infantry outfit. Tired of jumping about from place to place and looking for a stable long term contract they and having heard about our situation in the Outworlds Alliance through the Commander of Aces Wild's 1st Armored Regiment, they approached us about joining. Having worked together before and willing to be a support unit for the 1st AR, they seemed to be a perfect fit. The Aces Wild took them in under the same long term contract with the same shares as the other support units. This addition was especially significant because they brought an engineering battallion along with them and this would allow the them to accelerate their building of the satellite bases on the Moon base yet to be established and the Northern Ice Cap of Alegro.
3048 signaled the completion of two huge projects. The first was the completion of the satellite bases on the Northern Ice Cap of Alegro and the base on the Moon of Alegro. The second big event was the placement of a fully linked and operational HPG uplink system on the same Moon of Alegro. Comstar agreed to fund a majority of the base construction as well as lease the property. Needing reliable communications in the Outworlds Alliance and the new moon base proving to be both good in location and timing the deal was struck. The Aces Wild were tasked with protecting it along with a small delegation from Comstar itself to run the station.
3049 started off fairly normal and proceeded that way for most of the year. The most exciting thing being a running skirmish with Pirate forces harassing the outskirts of the Outworlds Alliance. AW being the most mobile force available we ended up being called on to track them down and put an end to them. Pitched battles on both Baligorra and Mishkadrill left the Pirate forces in tatters and the Aces Wild damaged but mostly operational. The Pirates were pursued and forced out of their area of operations, but not before it became apparent they were being funded by someone or something with a large pocket book. The traditional enemy of both house Davion and the OA, House Kurita was the best bet but nothing more than circumstantial prrof was ever found.
3050 brought the Clans to the innersphere. attacking on the Northern borders of Steiner, FRR and Kurita. With Liao and Marik continuing to prosecute attacks on Davion border worlds House Davion called out to the periphery states allied to them for help. This included the Outworlds Alliance. The OA Agreeing to maintian the AW holdings and to let the new Cadet Academy continue to function on Alegro allowed the Aces Wild to move into the House Davion operational theater and to function as a House Unit. House Davion also agreed to help the OA financially maintain the AW holdings on Alegro. Moving to Robinson and working closely with the Robinson Rangers Brigade allowed the Aces to intergrate with the House Davion forces seemlessly. Moving on to Addicks the Aces Wild have run several operations with HHoD and several other Davion Units.
Entering 3051 having established themselves as a solid reliable unit within the Davion hierarchy the Aces Wild find themselves in the vanguard of a force pushing into Liao.
